Resumption: the use of facemask among students and staff of kaduna polytechnic.

Corona virus also known as Covid’19 pandemic has introduced us to different ways of living life and being cautious of what happen around us. This virus is not just for one continent, race, religion but a general thing that doesn’t respect class or status of the victim.

Nigeria is not left out of this situation has it had to go on total lockdown of all activities to curtail the spread of the virus. In this regards schools and other institutions were under keys and locks and for about 7months schools could not open as the population involved is not something to overlook as nothing in the spread of the virus(Covid 19).

After many consultations and reports by the Presidential task force monitoring the pandemic in Nigeria, it was agreed that schools can now open by following the PTF Covid 19 protocol. Kaduna polytechnic just like other institutions of the federation put plans together and a date for resumption was announced and it was put into phases and batch.

The compliance of student and staff to the new era of the use of facemask and other PTF protocol not much followed even with the strict enforcement put in by the school management at the school main gate and hostels. student’s only hang it to their ears as a pass but not to curtail the spread of the virus. some students and staff are even seen walking around the school premises without one. Washing of hands and keeping social distance Is not adhere to as enforced by PTF for all schools.

Some students of the institution who spoke to lizzylookgood in anonymity said this trend can only be enforced with total compliance if the lecturers and other staff of the institution can lead by example of always coming to class with a mask, sanitizer and teaching in a class with proper social distancing. Another student said the school needs to provide all that both staff and students need to obey this protocol regularly.

A call to students of kaduna polytechnic even as they resume for next batch of phase1 Monday 30th November 2020, is that they should follow all laid down guidelines to control and stop the spread of Covid’19 and remain safe always.

Management of kaduna polytechnic through the Dean students affairs Mallam M.N Faruq on Monday 23th March 2020 has asked that all the students occupying the school hostel should vacate it on or before Friday 27th March 2020.

This information was passed in a circular signed by the deanery. This action was taken in line with the federal government 30 days shut down of institutions and public places to help control and prevent the spread of Corona virus also known as Covid’19.

However, it was made clear from previous circular issued that the school will also do it best to help curtail the spread of this virus among it’s students and staff.

Students vacating the hostel before the school deadline.

The move to vacate the hostel was frown at by some students who said “staying in the hostel is more safer for them than traveling out of the school. And that, they will be open to more danger outside than in the school”.

The school management wishes all of it students safe trip back home and they should all keep to all the guidelines given to stay safe from the virus.

Health as we allow know is wealth. Is this saying and statement true to those who occupy the femlae hostel of kaduna polytechnic? The answer according to this report is NO.

During a cross interview session with some of the hostel occupant, it was discovered that each of the hostel rooms were designed to accommodate just fours persons but that’s not the order in the allocation anymore. As the female hostel is meant to occupy five at a time. This situation the occupant see as a threat to healthy living in the hostel. Thus making every occupant open to any kind of health risk.

One of the hostel occupant Abuja hall, Ruth said:” this our female hostel as been in a very bad shape which we have been asking that the school management do something about it but instead they add to the problem by adding more occupant without any repairs. I see this as a major health risk because the rooms are mostly stuffy and not conducive most of the times”.

Fatimah from Lagos hall also shared her view with me:” my first call is to the Rector, he should pay a visit to these hostels and see for himself. We cannot pay same hostel fees and some of us live as squatters in a place we paid equal money for. When you’re allocated the last person in the room(5th) automatically you don’t have a bed space, wardrobe, study angle etc. Which is not suppose to be so. Please the Rector should take a quick action on this, God forbid Corona virus and the likes she added.

Health as we all know and will agree is wealth. Is this statement and saying through about the living conditions of the female students of kaduna polytechnic?

Findings have shown that presently the female hostel rooms designed for four persons is now occupied by nothing less than five persons.

Some female students moving into the hostel.

This development is becoming a thing of concern and worry for the student allocated to the various hostels. As it is now in the girls hostel nobody wants to be the fifth person allocated to any of the rooms because such person does not enjoy things like: wardrobe, bed space, reading angle etc.

According to Ruth a female student allocated to Abuja hall, the conditions of the hostel is not good enough for it to accommodate the numbers of people sent to it. And she called on the school management and rector to pay a visit to the hostel so that they can assess the level of damage and congestion in the various hostels. Thereby adopting a lasting solution to better the living conditions of the female students.

Prof. Idris Muhammad Bugaje (RECTOR) Kaduna polytechnic.

Another female hostel occupant from Lagos hall said: ” the hostel security is okay but we want them to look into the numbers of students allocated to each room so that everyone can have equal right to their space. She also said with the different health issues around the world congesting the hostel should be discouraged and more hostel Hall’s should be provided to accommodate more students willing to stay within the school.

However, the students gave kudos to the Rector and his team for good job they’ve been doing in school and ask that they should not relent as they have their full supports as students of this great institution.

Let’s think health and decongest the female hostel.

STOP THE ABUSE

Why sexually abuse a child instead of protecting the child? It is our duty as adults to protect and guide the younger ones but today reverse is the case. Our children are no longer safe in the hands of our family members friends and neighbors. Where is the place of the good morals instill in us?, why do we find pleasure in doing evil to those that see us as their defense. A child just like any other human has the right to live freely and to be protected. #standup #Sayno #tochildabuse.

Don’t violate the child sexually. Don’t act like you don’t have a conscience. Be a father we can run to, be a mother we can confide in, be that Uncle/aunty we can share talks with and be that nice neighbor we can be free with.

Am a child please protect me.

Stop, I need more love than this.

Protect me and not abuse me.

Report any sexual abuser to the appropriate body, save a child today and put a lasting smile on his/her face. #Standup #SayNo #TochildAbuse
